Select the correct sequence which represents the various stages of follicular development?
The process of follicular development from primordial germ cells to Graafian follicle is called folliculogenesis. Primordial germ cells differentiate into oogonia and then after undergoing mitosis forms primary oocytes during the fetal stage.
Each primary oocyte gets covered by granulosa cells and grows into a large primary follicle.
When primary follicles get covered by many more layers of granulosa cells and the formation of a new theca (a layer of connective tissues that surrounds the granulosa cells) around it takes place, they are then called secondary follicles. Secondary follicles are larger than primary follicles.
Secondary follicles on further development transform into a tertiary follicle which is characterized by the fluid-filled cavity called the antrum.
