Solution

The correct option is D A maturing follicle causes the uterine lining to build up.
Positive feedback on pituitary of estradiol that increases the responsiveness of pituitary to GnRH and promotes LH surge as well as positive feedback of progesterone on the hypothalamus to increase the GnRH secretion regulate the whole cycle. Graffian follicle is transformed into corpus luteum after ovulation. Gonadotropins (LH and FSH) promote growth and maturation of follicle. Lower levels of estrogen and progesterone caused by the absence of fertilization cause the shedding of the uterus lining. A mature follicle releases estrogen and progesterone which in turn causes endometrium thickening during the follicular phase. Thus, the correct answer is option E.
