Solution

The correct option is C The outer nuclear membrane may contain ribosomes
The nucleus is a double membraned organelle containing the genetic material in a eukaryotic cell. It is the largest cell organelle in an animal cell. A nucleus when observed in a non-dividing phase shows the nuclear membrane, chromatin, nucleoplasm and the nucleolus. The inner membrane is devoid of ribosomes while the outer membrane may bear ribosomes on its surface. The space between the two membranes is called the perinuclear space.

The eukaryotic cells contain a well-defined nucleus. However, certain cells like mature RBCs become devoid of the nucleus at maturity. This is done to accommodate more space to transport gases.

The mitochondria are also called the ‘powerhouse of the cell’ as it is the organelle where energy is synthesized in the form of ATP. It is the main site of aerobic respiration. The bonds in food substances are broken down in the presence of oxygen to release energy. The energy liberated is stored in the form of ATP.
