Select the correct statement for epididymis.
Epididymis, located in the scrotum, is a coiled duct (male accessory reproductive duct) that carries sperm from the testis to the urethra. In the epididymal epithelium, the tall columnar cells and shorter basal cells give it a two-layered appearance. Thus, it is called pseudostratified epithelium.
Epididymis controls and monitors the secretion of seminiferous tubules. It also plays role in sperm concentration, maturation (including sperm motility acquisition and fertilising ability), protection and storage. The walls of the tube are thickest at the head and thickness decreases along the length of the tube to the tail. As the walls get thinner, more and more water is reabsorbed into the body, and sperm concentration increases
Epididymis helps in the storage, protection and maturation of sperms.
Transport of sperm in the epididymis is a peristaltic movement (wavy movement of sperms in forwarding direction towards urethra) whereas movement in a body which is in a backward direction to peristalsis is called anastalsis.
