Transpiration is beneficial to the plants due to its role in ascent of sap, absorption and translocation of mineral salts and in the regulation of temperature of plant tissues. However, transpiration also causes loss of water unnecessarily, therefore it is called a necessary evil. Lenticular transpiration is the loss of water in vapour form from lenticels. The transpiration through lenticels is hardly 0 to 1 percent of the total transpiration. The loss of water through hydathodes is in the form of liquid and not vapour. During night, the rate of transpiration is very low.
