Alimentary canal begins with an anterior opening called mouth. The mouth is bounded by lips, cheeks and jaws. The immovable upper jaw is called maxilla and the movable lower jaw is called mandible. The tooth is embedded in the socket of both the jaw bones. Human beings have two sets of teeth in their lifetime. This type of dentition is called diphyodont. But the premolars and one molar tooth appear only once in the lifetime of an individual. Thus these teeth exhibit monophyodont. Pharynx is the common passage for both food and air. Posteriorly, it opens into the oesophagus and larynx.
