Swami Vivekananda, born in 1863. He was loyal to his guru Ramakrishna. He was dissatisfied with the conventional philosophical practices, and put emphasis on cultural nationalism. He advocated the practical Vedanta of service to humanity and attacked the tendency to defend every institution because it was connected with religion. Despite his fame, he was condemned by orthodox Hindus for suggesting that the lower castes should be allowed to engage in the Hindu rituals from which they were traditionally excluded.
