Razia was the first and only woman to rule over the Sultanate in 1236. She was hated by the nobles as they resented a woman ruling them. She did not follow the Purdah system. Muslim women of that time were not allowed to move around without a Purdah i.e a veil. So they accused her of violating it. They also hated her for favouring a slave, Yaqut. Razia was an efficient ruler, but her rule lasted for only around three years. She died during a battle against the nobles.
