Solution
The correct option is A Both chloroplast and mitochondria have an internal compartment, the thylakoid space bounded by the thylakoid membrane.
Inside chloroplast are present thylakoid membranes. The thylakoid membranes enclose a thylakoid space called lumen. The lumen accumulates protons during the light reaction. These protons later on flow out from the lumen to stroma along the electrochemical gradient which leads to ATP synthesis and the process is called as photophosphorylation. The mitochondria don't have such an internal membrane system of thylakoid membranes. The inner mitochondrial membrane is, however, infolded into numerous cristae which bear Fo-F1 particles or oxysomes which synthesize ATP through oxidative phosphorylation.
So, the correct answer is 'Both chloroplast and mitochondria have an internal compartment, the thylakoid space bounded by the thylakoid membrane'.
