Komaram Bheem was born in the village of Sankepally in Komarambheem district of present-day Telangana. He killed a Jagirdar named Siddhiki, an informer of the Nizam, who occupied his land. He escaped to Assam. Here, he was exposed to labour agitations and learnt to read and write. He was inspired by the resistance of Alluri Seetha Rama Raju in Visakhapatnam and the revolt by Birsa Munda.
