A Mission in Khedgaon near Pune was set up by Pandita Ramabai in the year 1898. The main aim of this was to motivate the poor women and the widows to become literate. They were encouraged to be independent. Many skills which were considered male dominated such as carpentry, running a printing press were taught to them. This mission still works for upliftment of poor and needy women.
