Question

Sheela and Meena have a certain number of coins totalling 30. If Sheela gives 5 coins to Meena, Meena will have double the number of coins Sheela has. Draw the graph that depicts the given information and the solution.

Open in App
Solution

Let number of coins sheela has be x and number of coins Meena has is y.

Total number of coins is 30

x+y=30

Then the Graph should pass through (30,0) and (0,30)
[By substituting x = 0, y = 0 and getting corresponding values]

Again, Sheela gives 5 coins to Meena ,Meena will have double the number of coins Sheela has.

2(x5)=y+5y=2x15

Then the Graph should pass through ( 7.5, 0 ) and ( 0, -15)
[By substituting x = 0, y = 0 and getting corresponding values]

The point of intersection of two lines passing through above points is (15,15)

The solution is (15, 15)
