Sheela and Meena together have 30 coins. If Sheela gives 5 coins to Meena, Meena will have double the number of coins Sheela has. Which of the following graph represents the given information? Also, find the solution of the equations.
Let the number of coins Sheela has = x
Number of coins Meena has = y
Total number of coins is 30.
⇒x+y=30 ... (i)
Again, Sheela gives 5 coins to Meena, Meena will have double the number of coins Sheela has.
⇒2(x−5)=y+5
⇒y=2x –15 ... (ii)
For equation (i),
When x = 0, then y = 30.
When y = 0, then x = 30.
For equation (ii),
When x = 10, then y = 5.
When y = 0, then x = 7.5.
Plot the points on the graph and draw the lines.
Lines intersect at (15, 15).
∴ The solution is (15, 15).
