Give an account of the Miller and Urey experiment on the origin of life.

In 1953 Miller and Urey conducted an experiment which established that the early Earth atmosphere was capable of producing amino acids, the building blocks of life, from inorganic substances. They took a flask containing a mixture of gases (ammonia, methane, hydrogen, water vapour) and circulated a high frequency spark in it. After a week a mixture of amino acids were obtained.
