Question

Short / Long answer type questions.
In an experimental animal the sympathetic. preganglionic fibres to the adrenal medulla are cut. What happens to the plasma concentration of epinephrine at rest and during stress?

Solution

The sympathetic preganglionic fibre provides the only major control of the adrenal medulla. If these fibres are cut, the ability to control adrenal medulla will be lost. Hence, hormonal release from adrenal medulla will be affected. In this case, epinephrine decreases to very low concentrations during rest and fails to increase during stress.
