The laws of thermodynamics govern the exchange of energy:-
The First Law of Thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change form or be transferred from one object to another.
The second law of thermodynamics states that every energy transfer that takes place will increase the entropy (randomness) of the universe and reduce the amount of usable energy available to do work. In simple terms, there is a loss of energy to the universe in every energy transfer.
