Solution

  • An axon or nerve fibre, is a long, slender projection of a nerve cell, or neuron, in vertebrates, that typically conducts electrical impulses known as action potentials away from the nerve cell body.
  • The myelinated nerve fibres contain a myelin sheath, surrounding the axons of the nerve cells.
  • Schwann cells or oligodendrocytes in myelinated nerve fibres produce a myelin sheath.
  • The saltatory conduction in the myelinated nerve fibres increases the speed of conduction of the nerve impulses.
