Solution

The caecum is the first region of the large intestine that receives undigested material from the small intestine and is a pouch-like structure located at the junction of the small and the large intestine. It functions in absorbing fluids and salts that remain after completion of intestinal digestion and absorption and mixing its contents with a lubricating substance called mucus.
