You are given a group of bacteria. How do you proceed to determine whether it is Gram -ve or Gram +ve bacteria ?

To determine the type of bacteria given we will follow the gram staining technique which involves the following steps:

1) Staining bacteria with crystal violet for 30 seconds

2) Treatment for one minute with iodine solution

3) Washing with a destaining agent after it gram +ve will retain deep violet and gram-ve will be decolourised.

4) Gram-ve bacteria will take red stain with safranin.
