Solution
Electron transport system produces a proton gradient whose breakdown leads to the formation of ATP molecules.
The electron transport system passes the electrons down their reducing potential through specific complexes and molecules. This energy is stored in the form of a proton gradient between the matrix and intermembrane space. Finally, a complex called F0-F1 ATPase breaks down this gradient along with the production of ATP molecules.
The source of reducing power is NADH and FADH2 molecules.
