Question

Short / Long Answer Types :
Why is less energy produced during anaerobic respiration than in aerobic respiration?

Open in App
Solution

During anaerobic respiration, the pyruvate produced by glycolysis enters into fermentation whereas in aerobic respiration the pyruvate produced is fed into Krebs cycle where the pyruvate is transformed into several other intermediates during which several molecules of NADH, FADH2, direct ATP and some GTP is also produced. this makes the energy production in aerobic respiration greater then anaerobic respiration.
