The Indian trade and industry in the British period collapsed. The East India Company not only exploited the natural resources of India but also pressurised the indigenous market which was unable to compete with the superior quality of finished goods from Britain. India was exploited immensely by forcing it provide cheap raw material like cotton, silk, spices, indigo, etc.
