Lysosomes are cell organelles that contain hydrolytic enzymes.
Hydrolytic enzymes can break down the unwanted components of the cells including proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates forming cell debris.
Cellular components that are not required for further cellular functions move to the lysosome where it is broken down.
If the cell functions abnormally, the lysosome can burst to result in the autolysis or death of the cell as the enzymes digest all the cellular structures.
