Solution

The correct option is A 464,597
We need to find an unknown number that equals 537,462 when added to 72,865.
?+72,865=537,462

To find: 537,46272,865

First aligning both the numbers according to Place Value table,

For doing subtraction,
Ones digit of minuend must be subtracted by ones digit of subtrahend, tens digit of minuend must be subtracted by tens digit of subtrahend and so on ...

So, first subtracting the digits at Ones place, 25 which is not possible.

Therefore, for subtracting digits at ones place, we will borrow 1 tens from 6 tens.

As we know that,

1 tens =10 onens

So, digit at onens place will become 10+2=12 and digit at tens place will reduced to 61=5. As depicted in figure below,

now, we can subtract digit at ones place, 125=7. Depicted in below, figure,

Now subtracting the digits at tens place, we get

56, which is not possible

Therefore, for subtracting digits at tens place, we will borrow 1 hundreds from 4 hundreds.

As we know that,

1 hundreds =10 tens

So, digit at tens place will become 10+5=15 and digit at hundred place will reduced to 41=3. As depicted in figure below,

now, we can subtract digit at tens place, 156=9. Depicted in below figure,

Similar operations will be done for subtraction of rest of the places digits, as depicted in figure below,

Therefore, 537,46272,865=464,597
