The given equation is $5 x - x = 72 - 4 x$ .

Adding $4 x$ on both sides of the equation, we get
$5 x - x + 4 x = 72 - 4 x + 4 x 8 x = 72$

Transposing 8 from LHS to RHS, we get,
$x = \frac{72}{8} x = 9$
