Aim: To show that liquid exerts lateral pressure.

Material required: A glass jar, a deflated balloon, and water

Procedure:

  1. Set up the apparatus as shown in the figure.
  2. A deflated balloon is tied to the side tube of the container opened at one side.
  3. Now fill water in the container..

Observation:

Balloon-connected inflates due to the pressure of liquid exerted sideways.

Conclusion:

This shows that liquids exert pressure sideways also.
