Question

Show that function f:NN given by f(x)=3x is one-one but not onto.

Open in App
Solution

Let x1,x2ϵN be such that f(x1)=f(x2)3x1=3x2x1=x2

Thus, f(x1)=f(x2)x1=x2 then f is one-one

As 1ϵN and there does not exist any xϵN such that f(x)=1

so, f is not onto

Hence proved.
