Question

Show that the function f:RR is defined by f(x)=4x+3 is invertible. Hence write the inverse of f.

Open in App
Solution

f:RR
f(x)=4x+3
if(x1)=f(x2)
4x1+3=4x2+3
x1=x2
f(x) is one-one
f(x)=4x+3
y=4x+3
y3=4x
x=y34
put x in f(x)
f(x)=4(y34)+3
y3+3=y
f(x) is onto
So ,f(x) is invertible since the function is bijective.
f(x)=4x+3
x=4y+3
4y=x3
y=x34
f1(x)=x34
