Question

Show that the light waves are transverse in nature.

Open in App
Solution

When the polarised light coming through the polariser is incident on an analyser, parallel to the axis of polariser, then the emergent light has maximum intensity, whereas when the analyser is rotated at an angle, then the intensity of emergent light goes on decreasing.
And when it is perpendicular to the axis of analyser, then the intensity is minimum.
This shows that light waves are transverse in nature.
