Solution

Let the given points be A(4, 7, 8), B(2, 3,4), C(- 1, - 2,1) and D(1, 2, 5).
Direction ratios of AB(a1,b1,c1) are (2 - 4), (3 - 7), (4 - 8) (- 2, - 4, - 4)
a1=2,b1=4,c1=4
Direction ratios of CD(a2,b2,c2) are (1 + 1), (2 + 2), (5 -1) (2, 4,4)
a2=2,b2=4,c2=4
AB is parallel to CD if
a1a2=b1b2=c1c2
We have a1a2=22=1, b1b2=44=1 and c1c2=44=1
a1a2=b1b2=c1c2 Hence, AB II CD.
