Show that the points A(5,6),B(1,5),C(2,1) and D(6,2) are the vertices of a square.

Given, A(5,6) B(1,5) C(2,1) and D(6,2)

So by distance formula we have,

Distance between two points = (x2x1)2+(y2y1)2


AB=(15)2+(56)2=(4)2+1=17

BC=(21)2+(15)2=17

CD=(62)2+(21)2=17

DA=(56)2+(62)2=17

AB=BC=CD=DA...........(1)

Now,
Slope of side AB, (m1)=6551=14

Slope of side BC (m2)=5112=4

m1m2=14×(4)=1

Hence, ABBC..........(2)

ABCD is a square (proved)
