Show the following process in the form of flowcharts/reactions.: Anaerobic respiration

Open in App
Solution

Anaerobic respiration:

  1. Respiration is defined as the oxidative breakdown of respiratory substrates such as glucose by enzymes to release carbon dioxide, water, and a significant amount of energy.
  2. Respiration is of two types: aerobic and anaerobic respiration.
  3. The respiration which takes place in the absence of oxygen is known as anaerobic respiration.
  4. It generally takes place in lower organisms like yeast and human muscle cells, when the supply of oxygen is inadequate.
  5. The amount of energy released is very less.

Word equation:

  1. Fermentation in yeast:
Glucose → Alcohol + Carbon dioxide + Energy
  2. In human muscle cells:
Glucose → Lactic acid + Energy
