Solution

Step 1: Pollination:

  1. Pollination is the transfer of pollen grains from the anther to the stigma of the flowers.
  2. Anther present in the androecium possess the pollen grains containing the male gametes.
  3. The pollen grains stick on the stigma of the gynoecium during pollination.

Step 2: Development of pollen tube:

  1. Pollen tube extends from the pollen through the style of the gynoecium and it moves towards the ovary.
  2. The male gametes pass through the pollen tube into the ovary.

Step 3: Fertilization:

  1. The female gametes is present inside the ovule present in the ovary.
  2. The pollen tube extends towards the ovule where the male gamete enters and finally fuses with the female gamete.
  3. Fusion of male gamete and female gamete forming the zygote is called fertilization.

Step 4: Seed formation:

After fertilization, the ovary develops into fruit and the ovule containing the zygote develops into seed.
