Question

Show with calculation, which one has greater energy? An X-ray photon with λ = 1 oA or an electron with λ = 1 oA. (me = 9.1 x 1031 kg, c = 3 x 108 m/s)

Solution

Energy of photon/light =hcλp
Energy of electron i.e kinetic energy =12MeV2e
Let say Ve=C (speed of light)
Ee=12Mec2=12×9.1×1031×(3×108)2J
Ee=40.95×1015J
& EP=hcλP=6.63×1024×3×1081010
=19.89×1016J
But as both photon & electron have same de-broghe wavelength =1A0=1010m
Ec=12(hλe.c)c2[λe=hmc]
=hc2λe
So, Eproton>Eelectron for same λ.
