Question

show with example that when a body is dropped from a certain height the potential energy gets converted into kinetic energy

Open in App
Solution

  • Consider a ball which is dropped from certain height from the ground.
  • Initially, the ball is in rest. So, it has zero kinetic energy and maximum potential energy.
  • During its fall, its height from the ground reduces and gains speed. So, its potential energy decreases with a corresponding increase in kinetic energy.
  • Just before it reaches the ground, the ball has zero potential energy and maximum kinetic energy.
  • At any point, during the motion of the ball, the sum of PE and KE is always constant according to the law of conservation of energy.
