Galvanometer is a very sensitive instrument hence it can’t measure strong currents. For converting a Galvanometer into an Ammeter, "shunt" resistance of very low magnitude of resistance needs to be connected in parallel to Galvanometer. Value of shunt is so adjusted that most of the current passes through the shunt. In this way a Galvanometer is converted into Ammeter and can measure strong currents without fully deflected.
