Given

Interest for 13 months at 4%

Interest per year =4%

interest per month =412=13%

Interest for 13 months =13×13=133%

Interest for 8 months at 6%

interest per year =6%

interest per month =612=12

interest for 8 months =12×8=4%

Let the principal amount be x

133%ofx4%ofx=4013%ofx=401%ofx=120100%ofx=120×100=12000

Hence, the principal amount is 12000.
