In erythrocytic schizogony, the micro-metacryptozoites invade the RBCs and forms a young trophozoite. As it grown in size, a central vacuole is developed and the nucleus is pushed to one side into the peripheral stage is clinically referred to as signet ring stage, as it resembles the signet ring with the peripherally located nucleus looking like a gem of the ring.
