Silkworms are reared under suitable conditions of temperature and humidity to obtain silk threads from their cocoons. Before extraction of silk fibres, the cocoons are boiled in water. The thread gets loose and is then reeled in machines. From one cocoon 250-2500 meters of thread can be obtained.
