Solution

Weight of apples = 6 kg 500 g
= 6kg + 500g1000kg/g= 6kg + 0.5kg = 6.5 kg.

Weight of oranges = 6.77 kg

(1 mark)
On comparing, we find that the whole number part of both numbers are the same, so we move on to the tenth digit.

The tenth digit of 6.77 is greater than that of 6.5, (7 > 5), so 6.77 kg is greater in magnitude than 6.5 kg.

Therefore, the oranges weighed more than the apples which Simar bought.
