Solution

We follow the BODMAS rule in simplifying the expression.
BODMAS: Brackets open, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction (in the given order)
We have:
[180 + (–15) + 20] – [(–2) × (–11) – (4 + 3)]
= [180 + (– 15) + 20] – [(–2) × (–11) – 7] (Performing addition in the simple brackets)
= [180 + (– 15) + 20] – [22 – 7] (Performing multiplication)
= [180 + (– 15) + 20] – 15 (Performing subtraction in the square brackets)
= [200 – 15] – 15 (Performing addition in the square brackets)
= 185 – 15 (Performing subtraction in the square brackets)
= 170
