Given: $4 x + x - 2 x^{2} + x - 1$
Let $f (x) = 4 x + x - 2 x^{2} + x - 1$
$= - 2 x^{2} + 6 x - 1$
The value of $f (x)$ at $x = - 1$
$= - 2 (- 1)^{2} + 6 (- 1) - 1$
$= - 2 - 6 - 1$
$= - 9$
