Sir/Man following is my question :
Briefly explain how does a karate player breaks a slab of ice with a single blow.
Pls help me solve this question.
Thnx
Here, the force exerted by a hand is an impact load. You probably know that F=δp/δt .
Where,
F-->force
p-->momentum
t-->time
In our case, F is large not because δp is large, but because δt is small. In other words, the force is large not because the momentum of the Karate expert’s hand changes a lot. It is because it changes quickly.
The breaking of the slab occurs due to Shear stress . The impact load exerted by the Karate expert’s hand gives rise to a Shear force in the slab.
This foece breaks the slab.
