Question

Sir standard temperature is 273K or 0 degree.

But volume of water is generally given at 4 degree Celsius.

Why it is generally given at 4 degrees rater than at standard temperature.

Please explain.

Thank you sir.

Solution

The density of water at room temperature is around 0.99 g/cm³ but as it cools from room temperature to 4°C, it's density increases as the molecules have less kinetic energy and are closer together. When water reaches 4°C the molecules have been pushed as close to one another as possible and the density of water becomes precisely 1.00 g/cm³. Below and above 4°C , density of water slightly vary from 1 g/cm³.
whenever we deal with parameters of water(volume , pressure etc) density of water should be 1g/ cm³.
So instead of giving volume at standard temperature ,it is given at 4°C because at this temperature density of water is 1g/cm³.
