Directing means guiding, instructing, motivating and overseeing the people so that they may work efficiently. It is an executive function.
Four points of its importance:
  1. Human factor: Directing is concerned with superior relationships.
  2. Continuous process: Directing takes place throughout the life of the organisation. The activities of an organisation cannot continue without directing.
  3. Takes place at every level: Every manager from top level management to supervisor performs the directing function.
  4. Initiates action: Directing initiates action in the organisation.
