Solution

The correct option is D Polygenic inheritance
A polygenic trait is the one that is governed by more than one gene. Human skin colour is a polygenic trait governed by three pairs of genes where dominant allele of each gene express only a part of trait and the full trait is expressed only in presence of dominant alleles of all multiple genes, is called polygenic inheritance. Skin color genes are present on autosomes and do not exhibit sex-linked inheritance. The presence of more than one allele for a gene is called multiple allelism; each gene for skin color has two alleles only. Pleiotropy is the condition where a gene has its own independent effect but also modifies the expression of a completely different gene quantitatively. Thus, the correct answer is option D.
