The environment where smoke is present is not good for health. It causes air pollution and affects all the living beings.
Harmful effects of coal burning:
(1) Generation of waste products that contain mercury, uranium, thorium, arsenic and other heavy metals which are harmful to health and environment.
(2) Sulphur particles present in the coal will cause acid rain.
(3) Interference with ground water and water table levels.
(4) Contamination of land and water ways.
(5) Dust nuisance
(6) Release of CO2, a greenhouse gas, which causes climate change and global warming.
(7) Coal is the largest contributor to the man-made increase of CO2 in the air.
