Solution

In SN1 reaction two types of products are possible. After a carbo cation is formed a nucleophile can come from two sides of trigonal planar structure to form bonds.depending upon the position of the newly bonded nucleophile two types of products are possible.one of which has same geometry as that the reactant or it retains its original geometry hence called retention and other will inverse its geometry called inversion.the 50 percentage mixture of both inversed and retained geometry is called racemic mixture and process is called racemisation.
