Solution

An amphoteric oxide is one which reacts with both acids and bases to form salt and water. Thus, if SnO reacts with both HCl (an acid) and NaOH (base) to give salt and water, it can be proved that it is an amphoteric oxide.

SnO+2HClSnCl2+H2O
SnO+2NaOHNa2SnO2+H2O
