Solution

Formula mass:- It is defined as the mass of any chemical formula or compound. In the neutral state of the compound, it is equivalent to molecular mass.

Explanation:-

Na2CO3.10H2O is made up of:-

  1. 2 Na-atoms
  2. 1 C-atom
  3. 3 O-atom
  4. 10 H2O molecules

Atomic mass of Na-atom = 23u

Atomic mass of C-atom = 12u

Atomic mass of O-atom = 16u

Mass of each H2O molecule = 18u

Mass of Sodium carbonate = 2×AtomicmassofNa(23)+1×AtomicmassofC(12)+3×AtomicmassofO(16)+10×MassofH2O(18)

Mass of Sodium carbonate = (2×23)u+(1×12)u+(3×16)u+(10×18)u

Mass of sodium carbonate = 286u

Hence, formula mass of Na2CO3.10H2O is 286u
